Permanent work

The majority of jobs in New Zealand are permanent, so it is important to have an understanding of all the in's and out's.

The benefits of permanent work

  • Permanent work offers a chance to extend your skills and experience.  Permanent roles will offer training and development and to a certain extent future career prospects within the organisation.
  • Permanent roles usually offer great packages with add-ons such as bonuses and/or a car allowance.  It is important to consider all of these add-ons when looking at permanent roles.
  • Permanent roles also offer paid holidays, along with paid sick days and statutory holidays (which are not paid when contracting).  Employees are entitled to a minimum of four weeks annual leave after the first year of employment.

As a permanent employee you will be employed directly by the company under the new government Kiwisaver scheme.  You will automatically be enrolled in Kiwisaver and your employer will make contributions to your fund.  To find out more information on Kiwisaver, click here.
