Arrival at Heathrow and Gatwick Airport

Whether you are arriving into Heathrow or Gatwick airport you will be required to pass through customs and have your Visa validated.  You will need to have the following documents with you; although they won’t always ask to see them it is best to be prepared.

  • Your Passport showing a valid working visa or any other relevant documentation.  If copies, they must be certified.
  • A recent bank statement showing the amount of money you have to support yourself.  A print out of your Internet banking statement is OK.
  • Details of your return airfare. If you already have a valid working visa they will not require this, however if you are entering without a work permit you must have this documentation.
  • The address of where you will be staying.  If you do not have an address get the name of a local hostel and tell them you will be staying there until you get settled.

It is a good idea to be prepared to answer lots of questions, even if you think they are not relevant.  Remember that the customs officials hold the power, whilst you may be tempted to make jokes they will not appreciate this and it may result in a delay getting through customs.
