Relocating is easy with a bit of assistance! When moving from country to country there is a lot to think about. We are always working to make the transition as easy as possible for you. Outside of getting a UK visa, bank account and mobile phone, all of which can be done through our Get Set pack, you should do the following leading up to your relocation:
Fill in a tax return and notify the tax man that you are leaving the country. You may even be owed a tax rebate!
Inform your bank/credit card companies of a forwarding address - if you have friends in the UK we advise you to redirect your post to their address as this will help you set up a bank account/mobile phone when you get there.
Take copies of important documents, both as photocopies and scanned documents – ensure a Justice of the Peace or Lawyer signs your photocopies so they are certified to be a true copy of the original. It is best to store scanned documents on a roaming email account such as Hotmail or Yahoo.
Settle any outstanding bills by contacting your utility companies. You don't want to find out the debt collector has been looking for you in your absence.
Cancel any subscriptions – for example magazines, gym membership.
Arrange any neccessary vaccinations at least six weeks before you leave.
We advise you to organise travel insurance – this offers you greater flexibility on where and how you are medically treated and can cover expenses for emergency repatriation.
Check that any electrical items and personal goods you plan to bring with you meet custom’s laws in the UK. You can find this information on the UK Customs Service's website.
Photograph valuables you will be travelling with – these can be used as evidence for insurance purposes should anything happen to them.
Ensure you know the address of where you are staying when you arrive – whether this be a hotel address or an address of a friend you will need to state this on an arrival card at the airport. Register with us now and take the next step in your career. |
