Working in IT

The IT market in the UK is exceptionally diverse and the market conditions are demanding that you be in the UK before applying for jobs.

This means that very few agencies are meeting people before they arrive and we are no longer setting up meetings with agencies for IT professionals before they get to the UK. We want to help you get a job which is why we have put together helpful hints for you, not only on getting a job but how to make more money once you have.

Searching for jobs and working out your value

To get an idea about the demand for your skills we suggest that you have a look through our information pack for IT professionals for the UK and review the job boards mentioned. These will give you a great insight into who is hiring and what you can expect to pay.

Get your CV primed

We strongly advise that before you go you get your CV UK primed. The reason for this is that the agencies will spend about 10 seconds on first glance of your CV for a role. So if you aren't getting the message across quick you have no chance. To help you create a CV that will get you to the front of the job seeking queue check out our CV page with our renowned CV template and guidance. Please feel free to use our CV template.

Brush up on your interview technique

We also recommend that you brush up on your interview technique before you get to the UK (this is for both the recruitment agencies and the companies that will hire you). Have a look at our interview tips.

Contracting and taking home more pay

Most IT professionals contract in the UK. Check out our guide to contracting in the UK so that you can understand the ins and outs of the UK contract job market (and what is expected of you).

Contracting provides you with a fantastic opportunity to massively reduce your UK taxes and put a lot more money in your pocket. We work with two providers that can give you about 85% of your billings as take home pay (compared with around 60% on pay as you earn). Find out more by having a look at our contractor and payroll solutions page.

We certainly hope that all the above information will kickstart your UK job hunt and you should take the time to review our website as there is considerable content on how to go about getting set up in the UK, the cost of living, pay levels and more.
