The Tier 1 visa allows you to work for up to two years in the UK and can be renewed for a further three years if you still meet the points requirement.

Recently there has been an increase in the points needed for the Tier 1 visa from 95 to 100, as well as an interim visa cap which is in place until 1 April 2011. Our analysis shows this is more likely to affect Australians than New Zealanders as the increase in earnings required for New Zealanders is still well within the pay bands for professionals. We will keep you updated as the situation develops.

Income (in £ equivalent) ever important

Points are allocated based on income, so the more you earn the more points you get. While the income thresholds are tougher, the strong exchange rate currently will make them more obtainable. The existing multipliers remain (however, they are subject to review) so New Zealanders still have the advantage of a 2.3 multiplier (compared to Australia's 1).

Funds to support yourself

You will need evidence of minimum funds of £2,800 for three full months before your application is submitted. For New Zealand that means around NZ$6,100 and for Australia around AU$4,900.

If you do not meet this criteria unfortunately no-one can help.
